DAY 2: SURIGAO DEL SUR (Libuacan Cold Spring and Hinatuan Enchanted River)
On the second day of our Surigao Del Sur escapade, we rented a habal-habal c/o Kuya Romnick. He charged us 1,700 for a whole day tour. We opted for the habal-habal ride instead of commuting thru bus because based on our experience on our first day, it will really take you a long time before arriving at your destination because of (1) stopovers and (2) limited number of buses. Renting a habal-habal is more faster. However, make sure to wear long sleeves, leggings, closed shoes, sun glasses, sunblock, or whatever sun protection you can wear to avoid sunburn. Haha!
First stop was Libuacan Cold Spring. According to the locals that we’ve met, the water in this spring is really clean and can be used for drinking. It is also connected to the Enchanted River of Hinatuan.
Libuacan Cold Spring
- Entrance Fee: NONE
Second stop was the Hinatuan Enchanted River.
Entrance Fees (As of July 2018): Adult: 30php + 10php (environmental fee) = 40 php
***Aside from the entrance fee and environmental fee, everyone is required to rent a life vest located at the entrance of the river.
Hinatuan Enchanted River’s unfathomable beauty really enchanted me. I never imagined that there was such a place as clean and as beautiful as this river. I’ve been dreaming of visiting this place since college and I can’t believe that I am right it front of it at that moment. If you’re planning to visit Surigao Del Sur, NEVER EVER forget to include this river on your itinerary.
After watching the fish feeding sesh and some quick dip in the river’s brackish water, we had lunch at the food stops near the ticket booth. The food there is a bit pricy so I would recommend to buy your own food before going to this place. However, tables and chairs are not free. You have to pay 100php per table with 3 chairs if you want to dine in that area.

The Enchanted River was our last stop because at that time, the so called “Niagara Falls” of the Philippines, or the Tinuy-An Falls was closed for road construction. Yes, I know. Boohoo! I even tried to use some connections in the barangay just to see this wonderful falls but I failed. HAHA! Well it seems that I would really need to go back to Surigao Del Sur to visit this amazing water falls.
Anyhoo, after the Hinatuan and Bislig tour, our habal-habal driver dropped us at the van terminal located in Bislig at around 3PM. We were set to visit Samal Island the next day so we decided to go to Davao City as early as we could.
